I visited the Institut du Monde Arabe today and was told that the apertures/shutters never worked correctly. From the inside you can see the intricate mechanisms that should have opened and closed the apertures. The opening and closing would have been truly spectacular had the scheme actually worked.
Were the shutters operational when you visited?
I couldn’t tell, I was there on a day it was closed, so couldn’t get in. This was from 2011.

Thanks for checking 🙂 The idea was brilliant, and has probably led to sun control that actually works, but that catch the imagination so clearly!
